Cemetery in Subathu
The Cemetery in Subathu, near Shimla that is in very good shape and is being maintained by the Indian Army. Deserve A Grand Salute.
Most of the graves have inscriptions on them. Here I am mentioning the names of those British that I picked up from the board installed by the Indian Army, just near the gate.
1 : Henrieta Sargent :The beloved daughter of Major O Sargent.
2 : David Edger : The beloved son of George and Kenricth Knowler who departed on 6th June 1869. “The Lord Givith and Lord Lakonth Bleshed is the name of Lord’.
3 : Margret Duncan : Widow of Late George Duncan, Died at Kussowlie on 20th Nove 1871.
4 : George Duncan : Conductor Army Commissariat Department Died at Subathoo 23rd August 1868.
5 : Franz Kniesghke : Died at Subathoo 6th September 1868 aged 36 years after a service of more then ten year as Band Master in the 92nd Gorden High Landers.
6 : Henrietta : The beloved wife of Prte S Childrenstone.
7 : Harry Charles Eldridge : Who died 1st Dec. 1870 aged 32 years 8 months.
8 : James Green EI : Late Sargent and Band Master HM 82nd REGT, who departed his life on the 20th July 1863. “AS FAR MAN HIS DAY ARE AS GRASS, AS FLOWER OF THE FILED SO HE FLOWERIEST’. …..PRALM – III
9 : 90th Infantry memorial erected by the 90th Light Infantry in the memory of their Comrades and the women and the children of the REGT who died at Subathoo.
10 : Lieutenant Montacy Thiman Ball Michell : Adjutant of the 41 Welsh Regiment who died at Subathoo, on 19th August 1869 at age of 29 years.
11 : Captain James Simpson : 41st Welsh Regiment who died at Subathoo 17th Jan 1870.
12 : Kate : The beloved daughter of Capt. James Simpson 41st The Welsh Regiment who died at Subathoo 28 August 1869 aged 18 years.
13 : Captain Cedrec Peddie : 41st Welsh Regiment who died at Subathoo 11 Sep 1869.
14 : John H Penton : Who died 8th May 1861.
15 : Mrs. Cathrene : Beloved Wife of Percy Keene.
16 : Surgeon William Henry Yates : 41 Welsh Regiment who died at Subathoo 1st Nov 1869 aged 41 years.
17 : Elizabeth R Newton : Wife of John Newton, died Sept 1857.
18 : Christiane Heriette : The beloved wife of Rev A Rudolph who died on 30th April 1884.
19 : Mary Mole : Born 9th May 1845. Died 8th October 1872. Also of her son born 3rd October 1872 and died 4th October 1872.
20 : Mary Ann : The beloved wife of Apothy CW Corbett who died 4th May 1857.
21 : Lieutenant Hewey Pennysale : Adjutant Nusseree Battalion who died on 30th April 1857.
22 : Major General Goralio Thomas : Bengal Establishment who died on 30th April 1857.
23 : The Rev in Norgaie : Assistant Chaplin Benoal Estate who died at Subathoo on 9th September 1848.
24 : This monument marks the grave of Annie Susan. Beloved wife of William Argen Crommelin Bengal. Engr, born at Briddel South Waled 28th November 1813. Died at Subathoo East in died 21st october 1864.
25 : Colonel Joseph Archard CB : Of the European Bengal Fusiliers who died on the 19th February 1847 in the 60th Years of his age.
26 : Capt Charles Clark : Died at Subathoo 13th October 1846, Capt. William Shortreed, Died in England on 14th May 1846. Captain Ayister Slewart who died at sea on 31st March 1846 on the 1st European Fusiliers.
27 : Maria : Daughter of Captain JKM Causland Emma. Who died on 20th July 1836.
28 : Mary Ann Sophia : Only child of William and Catherine Rowell, who died 16th July 1872.
29 : Francis Issabella : Wife of Major A Roberts, who died on 14th May 1827. “A ROUND PARENT AN EXEMPLARY WIFE, FAITHFUL FRIEND; A HUMBLE CHRISTIAN”.
30 : Mrs. Farrington : Widow of the Late Major Farrington 2nd Regiment NI. Who departed
this life in Feb 1859.
31 : Captain William Murray : 2nd Native infantry Political Agent at Amballa. He was the first son of Sir WM Murray, Baronet of Ochtertyre in Scotland. Highly Distinguished in the Gorkha War; By his talents and conduct he gained and to the last retained. He died on 28th June 1831. His death is universally regretted.
32 : John Thomas Carroll : Who died at Subathoo 17th Feb 1866.
33 : Lt. Alex Horne : Who departed this life 24th May 1834 aged 25 years.
34 : Maj. Gen. Sir John Withington Adam GCB : Who after a distinguished career of 57 years in India, in the service, in the honorable East Indian Company. Departed this life on the 9th March 1837.

64 : Henry Nepcean MC. Crea : Youngest son of Captain MC. Crea. Died 21st September 1841.
65 : Lillian Muriel Cutter : Age 1, Born 31st 1833.
66 : Charlotte Marstor : Died on 3rd April 1861.
67 : Sub Lieutenant Richard Trayers Barteg : Died on 3rd April 1861.
