Kiplings Trail

  • Here is your walking tour map of Kiplings Trail..

  • Let us give you a different experience of exploring Shimla. Let us walk through on old village called ‘Kyatoo’ now over constructed with so many new houses and has got its name mispronounced as Kaithu. This, nearly a kilometre long ridge extends to the north of Kali Bari temple and has many old houses on it. Out of those many, including Kipling’s house called Northbank is the major attraction. Although it is shared now by many families and is hidden in some modern sky scrapers but holds many stories in its walls.

There is only one piece of land near Shimla that can be considered as Table Land. This lovely walk towards this wide open ground pulls you thorough some of the narrow streets, trails and old houses where you can have some glimpses of Shimla’s typical lifestyle. People basking in the sun, ladies drying their laundry outside the house, washing clothes at public taps, children playing street cricket, a few shopkeepers busy with their daily customers and old men reading newspaper or just chatting. Gradually the walk takes you through a dense forest and finally ends at the place where the First English House named as Kennedy house was built in 1822.

A visit to a chalet on the way near the Annandale Ground since converted into Army Heritage Museum is a must.
