Who we Are?

At Shimla Walks, all our walks are designed and developed after a personal reconnaissance and personal experience. With time we have developed our expertise in providing an entirely different Holiday Experience. We design all our walks, village visits, visits to the local families, birdwatching trips, and Yoga holidays after a great research, and personal reconnaissance of itineraries to meet your gratification.

We are a team of Tourism Professionals, Writers, Authors, Naturalists, Photographers, Mountaineers, Explorers, Wanderers, and lovers of the Himalayas. We work hard, very hard to make your dreams come true, and create first-hand experiences for you. The places in the Himalayas which cannot be accessed by transport we access them on foot. Walking is the best way to see and enjoy nature. When you come up to the hills and are already exhausted by your travel, pollution, smog, and humidity we bring comforts to your feet.

Sumit Raj is the founder of Shimla Walks. He is a qualified tourism professional from Delhi University. Sumit has a vast store of knowledge of Shimla.

He started working here as a Heritage Tour Guide in 2000 and has Studied in detail the Origin & History of this British Himalayan Town.

How do we Work

We are not a hotel booking agency. We are also not transporters or just holiday sellers. Neither, we offer the traditional Golden Triangle or Silver Dual.

We are away from the regular tourist circuits and offer you entirely different experiences. We keep exploring the remote trails, try to show you the life on the concept of Back to Basics and, take you away from your daily hectic schedule.

For our Multiday tours, we use Homestays and Heritage Stays which are away from the main crowd and offer excellent experiences and service. All types of stays are recommended after personal inspections and experience.

How we work

For the last twenty years we have been traveling in the hills still keep exploring them. A visit to some remote village, stay with some local family, camp in the wilderness, A Family History Tour, A festival holiday, or Corporate travel, we know what to offer and how to organize.

We conduct complete research before any of our trips are finalized and offered. This practice is an essential part of our profession.

We think big but remain careful about the details, so we pay full attention and complete focus on the continual improvement of our holiday products to meet your expectations.

Initiatives

Introduced the concept of Walking Tours in the Himalayan foothills.
Initiated Heritage Experiences and some other special walking holiday tours in Shimla.
With the passage of time, these Walking Tours have become popular.
Started Cemetery Tourism in Himachal Pradesh and have helped many Brits, who come to Shimla, looking for their roots.

Reputation

In 2011 ‘Sumit Raj‘ the Founder of Shimla Walks and our leader was selected to support and guide Mr.Robin Boustead who was on his way to cross the entire length of Indian Western Himalaya. From Nepal till Ladakh the entire trek was completed in 3 months.

Our Walking Guides have appeared on many TV shows on Star News and Fox History Channel narrating the historical facts of this lovely town Shimla.
